At the beginning of the summer, a three-and-a-half-year-old boy named Lensky was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, one of the most common congenital heart defects.
Because the surgery he needs is not available in Haiti, he is now on the waiting list to fly to Miami for the operation. After being diagnosed, Grace Children’s Hospital cared for him in the inpatient ward to get him healthy enough to get back on his feet—quite literally.
“When he first came to Grace, he couldn’t stand up or run,” his mother Augustine said. “But with care, he now has more strength.”
Augustine was impressed by the level of care her son received while staying there and felt safe leaving her child with such a compassionate and dedicated staff.
“The mamans treat the children like they are their own when their parents can’t be there,” she said.
Before they went to Grace Children’s Hospital, Augustine didn’t even know his condition was related to his heart. “Now I can take the necessary steps to get him the care he needs,” Augustine said. She has applied for his passport and is filling out the necessary paperwork for the next step.
In the meantime, the two of them return regularly to Grace for check-ups and they’re grateful that because of Grace, Lensky now has a chance at life.
This chance, is thanks to you. These families are only charged $8 for a child to be admitted to the inpatient ward no matter the length of their stay. And no child is turned away for inability to pay. Just $8 really can make a difference. Give today.
